DISCOVERY HEIGHTS BUILDS
A Collaboration with the Rockbridge Regional Library
If you’ve happened to be in the Rockbridge Regional Library in Lexington on certain Friday afternoons, you may have noticed an unusual amount of activity in the Piovano Room. “Heavy” construction and heavy thinking has occupied four Fridays for Rockbridge kids in Builders Club, a free program for interested builders of all ages. Each meeting has a theme and a challenge. “It’s a fun way to see how my friends build things to tackle a challenge,” say Gibson Fox, age 7. Mollie Fox, Discovery Heights board president, credits Mimi Elrod with awarding Discovery Heights a grant that was used to acquire many of the Legos. “Mimi was an early investor in Discovery Heights, and we are so grateful to her for seeing the value in the programming that we do.”
Discovery Heights has hosted Discovery Heights Builds an average of once a month, but due to its success and growing audience (the meeting in January had 35 kids!), we will be expanding to two meetings per month in February and March. Upcoming dates are February 15, March 1, March 22, and April 19 from 3:30-4:45 p.m. For additional dates and times, please check our calendar on our Home page or follow the Discovery Heights on Facebook and Instagram. Drop-ins are welcome, and girls are especially welcome.
Do you have a stash of Lego mini-figures, Duplos, or Keva planks sitting around? To accommodate the growing interest and expanded programming, we will gratefully accept donations of these building materials. Please email if you would like to contribute. Additionally, please visit our Amazon Wish List to purchase the materials directly.
